Trentham is one of the hidden secrets of Victoria. It is
a quiet, picturesque country town nestled amongst the tall
timbers of the Wombat forest. It has more recently developed
a range of accommodation and romantic dining to compliment
the outdoor forest-experience based tourism that is fast developing, this and several recent subdivision developments ensure that it's population is increasing.
Trentham Falls is the largest single drop waterfall in Victoria
and is a favourite hiking and picnic spot.
Trentham is famous for it's potato farming and timber industry.
Handcraft and "collectibles" stores have become
established and there
are a number of meal and accommodation providers. The district
has several quality Bed & Breakfast operators.
There are a number of walks in and around Trentham, and
details of these are available from the Trentham Visitors
Information Centre, recently established in the old (1880)
railway station, worth a visit just to see it. The Trentham
Historical Society has published an interesting guide to a
walk around Trentham, and it is also available from the Visitor
Information Centre.
Recently the new Domino walking trail was established by
the community group Actively Conserving Trentham, and it has
proven very popular with walkers and bird watchers. It is
a gentle 10km (3 hour) walk, although it can easily be made
shorter if required. It passes through the habitat of the
endangered Powerful Owl, and follows the route of the old
Trentham Railway, part of the original line that once linked
Daylesford and Carlesruhe, and then to Melbourne. Interpretive
signs are placed along the walk, and a Domino Trail guide
is also available from the Visitor Information Centre.
Trentham has an excellent all weather 18 hole golf course,
a link to their website is included here.
